Done Deal!

It’s official! Chris Paul is now a part of the Los Angeles Clippers organization and Lakers fans are pist!

It all started Thursday, December 8, 2011 when the Los Angeles Lakers tried to seal a three-team deal that would have sent Paul to L.A., Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick to the New Orleans Hornets and Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets. NBA commissioner David Stern stopped that deal Friday before it could gain any momentum and by Sunday Lamar Odom was headed to Dallas to join the Mavericks.  At the same time rumors of the Los Angeles Clippers signing Chris Paul started swarming. This is where the plot thickens!

Negotiations between the NBA and the Clippers began Sunday but reports out of Los Angeles stated that the deal failed. Apparently the Clippers weren’t willing to make Guard Eric Gordon apart of the deal and didn’t want to give up their 2012 first round draft pick.

Talks resumed on Tuesday and by Wednesday CP3 was ready to call Cali his home, not in purple and gold as many ofus expected but in red and blue.

In the end the Clippers sent guard Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, and the 2012 unprotected first-round draft pick to the Hornets for Paul and just like that the LAC have become the hottest ticket in town. Last season, Blake Griffin brought excitement to fans with his youthfulness and style of play, but for the first time in a long time the Lakers may have to share the spotlight…and I for one am excited about it!

This block buster deal has ruffled a few feathers to say the least. Lakers fans have made their dissatisfaction known (mostly on Twitter), calling David Stern a hypocrite and some even suggesting an Occupy Staples Center movement where they throw skittles in disgust. I don’t know how tasting the rainbow will sock it the man but a deal is a deal and it’s done!

My girlfriend Amber, who isn’t a sports fan at all but has put up with my fanaticism for years, made a very valid observation Saturday when she said, “These fools have more drama than their “so-called” {basketball} wives! It feels like they’re trying to make up for all that time they spent agreeing to a deal to get the season started. Now it’s here and there’s all this craziness going down? I read Odom’s tweets and kinda felt the brotha’s pain! I’d be pissed too! Ya’ll don’t want me? Ok, well like Cee-lo said: “Fuhgethchuuuu.”

Yes it seems like craziness…but this is what NBA fans live for…is it fair? No! But life isn’t fair. Plus, that little piece of me that despises the Lakers is gloating and laughing hysterically.

Besides, it’s time for the Clippers to shine, and after years of standing in Kobe’s shadow, the spotlight in Tinseltown has been thrust upon the “Clip Joint!”

Buckle up…this season is already off to a wild start and it’s only going to get better from here!

This is just another reason why….I LOVE THIS GAME!
